The Archdiocese has noted the Government’s cautious stance, studied the restrictions and requirements, and consulted with a number of parish priests. Because we are not allowed to engage the help of volunteers, it will be difficult to fully comply with the strict conditions set for Phase 1. Hence, the Archdiocese has decided to postpone the reopening of the churches for private worship in Phase 1. As such, the parishes remain closed for the time being.
In Phase 1, only wedding and funeral rites are allowed. To minimise the amount of time people are gathered in the same location, such rites will not include Mass.
Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) will not resume yet because it is considered religious rite.
Anointing of the Sick is not allowed in residential areas. It will only be allowed in hospitals for non-COVID-19 patients on condition that the caregiver seeks permission from the hospital, and that the hospital grants it.
